Here is the third and final part about funny and weird Icelandic yule lads brothers. in this part you can see that they use various tricks to get what they want:
Stúfur or the Short One is the shortest of the yule lads. What he likes to do is go into people’s houses and steal their dirty pans and run away. Then he eats what’s left on the pan. Apparently this is plenty and plenty of food for him because of how small he is.
Pottaskefill or Pot scraper. These yule lads like to steal food from pots. He did that in that way as he would look inside the window to see if people were eating. If they were eating he would knock on the door and when people started to see who it was, he would rush behind the house and through a door or window and steal the pot with the food and then run away and then eat the food.
Gáttaþefur or theDoorway-Sniffer. These yule lads have a huge nose and with a sense of smell like a bloodhound even better. He never caught a cold and could smell food from miles away and knew who he could find the food. His favorite was the smell of Laufabrauð or leaf bread.
Askasleikir or Bowl-Licker. is very creepy yule lads. In the old days he crawled under people’s beds and waited for them to finish eating and put down their “askur,” (a plate used for all meals in the old days in Iceland ), which he then licked clean.
The Icelandic yule lads brothers use a lot of tricks to get over food and can be great pranksters and thieves. But they usually behave better today.
In the end
You can read all about the yule lads family in the book Jólin koma (Christmas is coming) after the Icelandic writer Jóhannes úr Kötlum. The book can be bought in English in bookstores in Iceland and is a great souvenir because the book is small and easy to travel with and fun to read.
